We too have lost
“Occasionally
I’ll see a patient that reminds me of my old dog Gus. It’s nice getting small reminders of an old
friend that I had to say goodbye to many years ago. It helps keep his memory alive.”
Dr. Kurt Rossebo

September 8, 2013 is National Pet Memorial Day. The
holiday was originally created in 1972 by the International Association of Pet
Cemeteries in recognition of the importance of remembering beloved lost pets. The doctors and staff at Kaukauna
Veterinary Clinic understand the strong bond our clients have with their pets
and the grief associated with losing a beloved pet. We thought we would share some ideas to help you remember your family member in a meaningful way.
The International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association
lists ways you can remember your pet.
They also have an online memorial where
you may share stories of your cherished family member. If you prefer a more local website, Forrest Run Pet Cremation Service and Memorial Tribute Center has a beautiful website
with an obituary tribute
section. There you will also find many grief
resources for dealing with pet loss.
Another option is to honor the memory of your
pets with others who have also experienced pet loss. The Fox Valley Humane Association is holding a Pet Memorial Service Sunday September 29th
at 2:00 pm.
"I deal with
clients' pet loss frequently, and it never gets easy. It is the most
difficult and gut wrenching part of our jobs. After losing my own beloved
companion, I had an even deeper appreciation for what a person goes through
when they lose their pet. Our furry little (and sometimes not so little)
friends wiggle their way deep into our hearts because of their lovable nature
and unconditional love. This creates an incredibly strong bond. My
hope for people that have experienced the loss of their pet is that they are
able to dwell on the many fond memories of their pet and let those memories
bring them peace and comfort." Dr. Ronald Biese
We want to help you celebrate the life of
your pet!
Feel free to share pictures
and stories with us of your special memories.
